Raw materials, production process, and application areas of galvanized square ship nails
Production raw materials
The main raw material for galvanized square nails is low-carbon steel , commonly used grades include Q195 and Q235. This type of steel has high ductility and processability, and is suitable for forming square rod structures for ship nails through processes such as cold heading and stamping.
-Nail Shank: Square rod design enhances shear resistance and anti loosening performance.
-Nail cap: Flat cap or hexahedron (rose cap), providing a larger contact area and fixation effect.
Coating material
The galvanized layer is made of zinc metal , which is covered on the surface of low carbon steel through electroplating or hot-dip coating process to form a corrosion-resistant protective layer. Molten zinc solution may be used in hot-dip galvanizing process, while electroplating galvanizing is achieved through the deposition of zinc ions in the electrolyte.
Production process
The production process of galvanized square nails mainly includes two stages: forming processing and surface treatment
Forming processing
-Cutting and Cold Heading: Low carbon steel wire is cut into specific lengths and processed into preliminary shapes of square bars and nail caps through cold heading technology.
-Rolling treatment: Polish the surface of the nail rod to remove burrs and improve its smoothness.
Surface galvanizing treatment
-Hot dip galvanizing (mainstream process):
1. Pre treatment : including degreasing (chemical cleaning of oil stains), acid washing (removal of oxide layer), and plating assistance (immersion coating of plating assistance agent to enhance the adhesion of zinc layer).
2. Hot dip plating : Immerse the pre treated ship nails in molten zinc solution (at a temperature of about 450 ° C), and the zinc reacts with the steel to form an alloy layer.
3. Cooling and Passivation : Quickly cool after plating and enhance corrosion resistance through passivation treatment (such as chromate).
4. Repair and Inspection : Remove zinc nodules and test coating thickness (in accordance with local thickness requirements of standards such as CB/Z 343-2005).
-Electroplated galvanizing:
By using electrolytic technology to deposit a zinc layer on the surface of the nail, the coating is more uniform but thinner, suitable for scenarios with high precision requirements.
Application Fields
Galvanized square nails are mainly used in the following fields due to their excellent anti-corrosion performance and structural strength:
1. Ship construction
-Fixed hull structure: used for connecting decks, bulkheads, and other parts to adapt to the corrosive environment of high humidity and salt spray in the ocean.
-Installation of outfitting components, such as railings, pipe supports, etc., requires long-term resistance to seawater erosion.
2. Marine Engineering and Port Facilities
-Dock steel piles and platform structures: Combined with cathodic protection technology (such as sacrificial anode aluminum blocks), extend the service life of steel structures.
3. Other anti-corrosion demand scenarios
-Outdoor buildings, such as bridges and transmission towers, use galvanized layers to resist acid rain and ultraviolet radiation.
-Automotive and Heavy Machinery: Used for fixing parts that require high weather resistance.
4、 Technical Standards and Quality Control
-Coating thickness: According to CB/Z 343-2005 standard, the average thickness of hot-dip galvanized layer without centrifugal treatment should reach 50-85 μ m (adjusted according to the substrate thickness).
-Adhesion test: Verify the bonding strength between the coating and the substrate through hammering or bending tests.
-Corrosion resistance: It is necessary to pass copper sulfate immersion test or salt spray test to ensure long-term stability in marine environment.
Summary
The production of galvanized square ship nails is based on low-carbon steel and achieves anti-corrosion protection through hot-dip galvanizing or electroplating processes. It is widely used in the industrial fields of ships, marine engineering, and high corrosion environments. Its core advantage lies in the combination of structural strength and long-term corrosion resistance, making it an indispensable fastener choice in marine development and infrastructure construction.
